Training Program Updates

Here are some of the new updates we’ve recently made to the Frequent Flyer Solutions training program.

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

Virgin Australia Velocity Gold status match

Following the Qantas status match launched last month, Virgin Australia has also now launched a Velocity Gold status match for frequent flyers with Gold or higher status with Qantas, Emirates, Air New Zealand or other Oneworld airlines. We’ve again updated our list of airlines currently accepting status matches in Unit 8.1.3 (Status Matches).

Qantas launches Classic Rail Rewards

It’s now possible to redeem Qantas Frequent Flyer points for Journey Beyond railway journeys on the Indian Pacific (Perth-Sydney), Great Southern (Adelaide-Brisbane) and The Ghan (Adelaide-Darwin). Like Classic Flight Rewards, the new “Classic Rail Rewards” have fixed points costs but are limited in availability.

We’ve added information about booking the new Qantas Classic Rail Rewards to Unit 2.1.2 (Redeem Qantas Points).

St George stops awarding points for tax payments; new table of cards that do work

St George Bank sadly stopped awarding points for government payments earlier this month. But there are still some Australian credit cards that do award points for ATO tax payments, including some business credit cards.

We’ve updated our list of credit cards that still earn poitns for ATO payments at the full rate and created a table with detailed information about each of the cards in Unit 3.3.2 (Earn Points for Tax Payments).

New section on meeting minimum spend requirements for credit card offers

When you apply for a new credit card with a sign-up bonus points offer, you’ll often need to spend a minimum amount on the card (e.g. $4,000 within 3 months) to earn the bonus points.

We’ve added a new section on credit card minimum spend requirements, including some suggestions on how to meet these targets and things to look out for, in Unit 3.3.1 (Bonus Sign-up Points).

Update to CommBank Awards transfer partners

CommBank Awards has removed Cathay Pacific Asia Miles and Qatar Airways Privilege Club as airline transfer partners. Meanwhile, it has improved the rate at which CommBank Awards points can be transferred to Air France/KLM Flying Blue. Updated Unit 3.2.2 (Complete Overview of Credit Card Programs).

Qantas Dream Planner tool

Qantas now has a free tool, the “Qantas Dream Planner”, that notifies you when Qantas releases award availability to a destination on your wishlist. We’ve added some information about this service to Unit 5.2.1 (Find Qantas & Oneworld Award Availability).

Updates to credit card sign-up offers

We continuously update the Credit Card Master List from Unit 3.2.4 (Choosing a Credit Card), as well as Unit 3.3.1 (Bonus Sign-up Points), at the start of every month. This was last updated on 3 December 2020.
