Training Program Updates

Here are some of the updates we’ve recently made to the Frequent Flyer Solutions training program…

Velocity point upgrades no longer available on Delta (and other Velocity changes)

Velocity Frequent Flyer has ended the possibility to upgrade on Delta flights using Velocity points. We’ve updated Unit 6.1.2 (Virgin Australia Upgrades) accordingly.

Sadly, this is just one of several recent (and negative) changes to Velocity, which also recently announced that you can no longer earn Velocity points or status credits on “VA” marketed codeshare flights operated by partner airlines. Velocity has also removed lounge access when flying partners Alitalia, Hainan Airlines and Hong Kong Airlines.

Meanwhile, it’s looking increasingly less likely that the ability to transfer Velocity points to KrisFlyer miles will ever return.

For more of the latest updates on Virgin Australia and Velocity Frequent Flyer, be sure to attend the upcoming webinar on 5 November 2020.

Update to credit cards that earn points on ATO tax office payments

St George, Bank of Melbourne and Bank SA will unforuntately stop awarding points on tax payments to the government from 9 December 2020. Updated Unit 3.3.2 (Earn Points for Tax Payments).

We continue to update our master list of Australian credit cards and list of current credit card sign-up offers every month.

Update to Qantas points reinstatement challenge

Qantas has changed the terms of the challenge it offers members to reinstate their expired frequent flyer points. Updated Unit 1.2.3 (Prevent Points from Expiring).

Air Niugini is no longer a Qantas partner airline

Air Niugini ceased to be a Qantas Frequent Flyer partner airline on 6 August 2020. We’ve updated the units relating to earning & redeeming Qantas points.

We’ve updated Unit 7.2.1 (Alliance Round-the-World Tickets) with new information about booking Oneworld Explorer and SkyTeam round-the-world tickets. We’ve also updated our information about where to book round-the-world tickets to save thousands of dollars.

We’ve also added instructions on how to book a Oneworld Classic Flight Reward with Qantas points in Unit 7.2.3 (Round-the-World using Points).

Changes to Priority Pass lounges

No1 Lounges are no longer participating in the Priority Pass lounge network. There have also been some changes to participating airport bars & restaurants in Australia – there is no longer a participating restaurant at Gold Coast Airport, but a new restaurant has been added at Canberra Airport. Updated Unit 8.2.2 (Priority Pass).

New content on transferring money overseas

We’ve added information about the best value & quickest way to transfer money overseas to Unit 10.1.2 (Exchanging Cash at the Best Rate).
