Frequent Flyer Training Updates
Here are some of recent changes to loyalty programs and new updates we’ve recently made to the Frequent Flyer Solutions training as of 4 August 2021.
As a reminder, Business & First Class members enjoy unlimited access to the Frequent Flyer Solutions training program! If you’re a Premium Economy or Economy member, you can access the first unit of every course for free or upgrade your membership to gain full access.
New Virgin Australia status runs
With Virgin Australia recently slashing its Business Class fares – and offering double Velocity status credits for bookings until 10 August 2021 – Virgin Australia domestic status runs just became a lot more lucrative! We’ve updated Unit 8.1.2 (Status Runs).
Virgin Australia resumes selling lounge memberships
Virgin Australia Lounge membership is now available for sale again, after sales were suspended due to COVID-19. The pricing model has changed; Velocity Silver members no longer receive a discount, but the joining fee has been removed. Updated Unit 8.2.1 (Paid Airline Lounge Membership).
Delta SkyMiles extends status until 2023
Delta Air Lines in the USA has become the latest airline to offer its frequent flyers another 12-month status extension, with Delta Medallion status now extended until January 2023. Other U.S. airlines are yet to follow, although United last month extended Global Services memberships by another 12 months. Updated Unit 8.1.6 (COVID-19 Status Extensions).
Alaska Airlines miles now redeemable for Qatar Airways flights
Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles can now be redeemed for some Qatar Airways flights. However, Alaska has not yet opened up award travel across all Oneworld airlines, and only Qatar Airways routes listed in the Alaskan award charts are eligible.
Qatar Airways flights to/from Australia are not available to book using Alaska Airlines miles at this stage, but you can book Qatar Airways flights to/from Auckland, New Zealand. Updated Unit 4.2.2 (Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan).
International travel update
The New Zealand government has sadly suspended quarantine-free travel from Australia to New Zealand until at least 25 September 2021. Meanwhile, the Australian government has given a further update on the vaccination targets required to reopen the country’s international border. Updated Unit 10.2.7 (Travel in a Post-COVID World).
Updates to credit card sign-up offers
We continuously update the Credit Card Master List in Unit 3.2.4 (Choosing a Credit Card), as well as Unit 3.3.1 (Bonus Sign-up Points), at the start of every month. This was last updated on 4 August 2021.
