Frequent Flyer Training Updates

Here are some of the recent changes to loyalty programs and new updates we’ve made to the Frequent Flyer Solutions training over the past month, as of April 2022.

As a reminder, Business & First Class members enjoy unlimited access to the Frequent Flyer Solutions training program. If you’re a Premium Economy or Economy member, you can access the first unit of every course for free or upgrade your membership to gain full access!

New Qantas Green tier

Qantas Frequent Flyer has introduced a new “Green tier” to reward frequent flyers for making “sustainable” choices. We’ve added a new section about this to Unit 2.1.1 (Earn Qantas Points & Status Credits).

Qatar Airways Privilege Club adopts Avios as its currency

The Qatar Airways Privilege Club program has replaced its Qmiles currency with Avios, the same currency used by British Airways Executive Club and other IAG airlines. It is even possible to transfer Avios between different programs. Updated Unit 4.2.8 (British Airways Executive Club).

New Velocity partner

You can now earn Velocity points when renting a car from SIXT. Updated Unit 2.2.1 (Earn Velocity Points & Status Credits).

Alaska Airlines now partners with Air Tahiti Nui

Air Tahiti Nui is now a partner of Alaska Airlines, meaning it is now possible to redeem Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles for Air Tahiti Nui flights (including on the airline’s new Papeete-Seattle route). Updated Unit 4.2.2 (Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan).

It is also possible to redeem Qantas points for some Air Tahiti Nui codeshare flights, but only on selected routes.

Yak Pay changes service fees

Yak Pay, one of the Australian bill payment services that allows you to earn points when paying the ATO or other tax bills, has changed its fees. Most Visa payments now attract a higher credit card fee, but Mastercard payments are now cheaper. With this change, Yak Pay is now the cheapest option in the market for tax payments via Mastercard. Updated Unit 3.3.2 (Earn Points for Tax Payments).

UK increases Air Passenger Duty (again)

The UK government has increased the Air Passenger Duty (departure tax) on long-haul flights departing the UK as of 1 April 2022. Updated Unit 5.1.3 (Avoid Fuel & Carrier Surcharges).

We’ve also updated this unit to reflect the recent hikes in Emirates carrier charges. Sadly, redeeming Qantas points or Emirates Skywards miles for Classic Rewards on Emirates is no longer great value.

Changes to Qantas Business Rewards

Qantas Business Rewards has made a range of improvements to the tier benefits available at each level, as well as reducing the thresholds that businesses need to reach to attain each level. Updated Unit 9.3.1 (Qantas Business Rewards).

New limited-time status matches

We’ve updated Unit 8.1.3 (Status Matches) with two new limited-time status match offers from ITA Airways and Royal Air Maroc (oneworld).

Updates to credit card sign-up offers

We continuously update the Credit Card Master List in Unit 3.2.4 (Choosing a Credit Card), as well as current Australian credit card sign-up offers in Unit 3.3.1 (Bonus Sign-up Points), at the start of every month. This was last updated on 4 April 2022.
