Amex Points Devaluation: What Now?
American Express recently announced a significant devaluation to Amex Membership Rewards. From 15 April 2019, the cost of transferring Amex points to most airline and hotel loyalty programs will increase. Amex is also making changes to the rate at which Membership Rewards points will be earned on many of its credit cards. It's the biggest shake-up to Australian credit card rewards since the RBA regulations introduced in 2017.
If you're an Amex cardholder, your Membership Rewards points may lose their value overnight. To avoid this, you may consider transferring some or all of your Membership Rewards points to an airline frequent flyer program before the devaluation kicks in on 15 April. That said, Amex will double the existing balances of some cardholders (including selected Platinum Charge and Centurion customers) to compensate for the increased redemption costs.
The upcoming webinar will discuss strategies for transferring points out of Amex prior to the devaluation.
You may be wondering whether it's worth keeping your Amex cards, or whether to adopt a new credit card earning strategy after April 2019. The webinar will also discuss how to maximise your credit card rewards after the Amex Membership Rewards changes.
This one-hour webinar will cover...
- Overview of the Amex Membership Rewards changes
- How to ensure your Amex points don't lose their value
- Which programs to transfer your points to prior to the devaluation
- Optimal post-devaluation credit card earning strategy
- The opportunity to ask questions
- And much, much more!
