How to earn top-tier Airline Status using Status Challenges
If you already have elite status with one airline, did you know that you can leverage this to get a free status match with other airlines? That's right, you can enjoy perks like airport lounges, access to priority queues and more upgrades… before you've even flown with an airline!
Outright status matches are becoming less and less common these days. But many airlines are now offering status challenges. Qantas, Virgin Australia, American Airlines, United, Delta and Air Canada are among the list of airlines that all offer fast-tracks to elite status. In fact, using status challenges, you can reach top-tier status on all three of the major airline alliances - Oneworld, Star Alliance and SkyTeam - extremely easily.
Status challenges are very useful if you ever find yourself flying with carriers that don't partner with your own airline. Or, perhaps you're considering switching your loyalty to another alliance but don't want to lose your existing status perks in the process. In most cases, you'll get to enjoy the perks of your status during the challenge period - regardless of whether you meet the specified target. If you do complete the challenge, you'll get to keep your status for up to two years.
If you don't yet have status with any airline, you can still take advantage of status challenges! Some airlines, such as American Airlines, will even offer you a very achievable challenge to obtain status for a small fee. It's possible to complete an American Airlines status challenge by taking just one Qantas flight, and you'll then get to keep your Oneworld status for up to 19 months!
